| FIAT's 500 for America delivers Italian panache with an enthusiastic punch. A standard 1.4L 4-cylinder engine delivers 101 horsepower. Not a lot of power, but the 500 weighs just over 2300 lbs. The car is front-wheel drive and comes with 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes and standard stability control.FIAT supposes the new generation FIAT 500 owner wants his or her car to be engaging, individualized, ecologically responsible and technologically savvy as they are. To that end FIAT delivers a 4-adult-passenger package clothed in a modern interpretation of details from its tiny predecessor, filled with sporting comfort and 21st-century science. The car has attracted an enthusiastic following among young urban professionals since its 2007 introduction in Europe.The first of three trims is the "Pop," which comes with 15-inch painted wheels with shiny trim and includes seven air bags, climate control, an AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio system with an auxiliary audio input. There is a Vehicle Information Center with a broad range of analysis and display reporting, including tire pressure. The "Sport" is recognized by its 16-inch alloy wheels and unique front and rear panels, includes all this and adds a number of visual cues to the exterior, while upgrading the audio system to a BOSE with six of their premium speakers. FIAT's BLUE&ME hands-free communication technology is included as is a USB port and iPod control capability. Top of the line is the "Lounge" as the name suggests is a bit softer and has a 6-speed automatic transmission, and the BOSE system adds satellite radio and a security system. A fixed, tinted glass roof is also part of the Lounge style kit. All current FIAT 500 models are front-wheel drive and powered by a 1.4-liter, DOHC, 16 valve, 4-cylinder engine with sequential multi-port fuel injection. It delivers 101 hp and 98 lb-ft of torque. While those are modest numbers for 2011, the FIAT 500 weighs 200 pounds less than a Mini Cooper. A 5-speed manual gearbox is standard on the Pop and Sport models, with a 6-speed automatic an option. The Lounge model comes only with the automatic. The manual transmission can attain 30 mpg city and 38 mpg highway. Five different wheel and tire packages are available, and a range of unique striping and graphic materials can be dealer-installed. Interior environments can be had in black or ivory and 14 seat color and material combinations compliment 14 different exterior/interior paint colors. |

Fiat-Chrysler shows its SEMA lineup
Fri, 24 Oct 2014Fiat Chrysler Automobiles already previewed its 2014 SEMA show lineup with some slick renders. Now, the automaker has finally showed us the actual cars, and among the group there are definitely some that stand out more than others.
Dodge is really showing off its muscle at this year's show with four concepts that all pump up the power of the brand's models. Perhaps most interesting among them is the Challenger T/A Concept (pictured above) in striking Sublime Green and matte black. It's meant to resemble the classic Trans Am racer from the '70s. Under the hood is a 6.4-liter V8, and to fit the vintage style there's a pistol-grip gearshift inside.
The Charger R/T also gets some attention with the Mopar concept that shows off what FCA's aftermarket performance arm can do. Mods include an updated body kit, cold-air intake for the 5.7-liter V8 and a coil-over suspension kit. Beyond that, the Dart R/T Concept looks a lot meaner with a black hood with duct work that leads straight to the air intake. The rest of the compact sedan is dolled up in O-So-Orange paint and is fitted with upgrades to improve handling like a coil-over suspension and big brake kit from the Mopar catalog.
Fiat celebrates 30 years of Panda 4x4 with Antartica edition [w/poll]
Wed, 04 Sep 2013Typically, 4x4s are rather large affairs, but the Fiat Panda stands resolutely against the trend. And what's more, it's done just that for 30 years now, over the course of which Fiat has rolled out three successive generations and sold over 400,000 examples of the little off-roader that could. So to celebrate three decades of the Panda 4x4, Fiat is rolling out this special edition.
Called the Fiat Panda 4x4 Antartica, it's set to debut next week at the Frankfurt Motor Show alongside a new Black Code trim for the Freemont (known to us as the Dodge Journey) and an anniversary edition Abarth 595. Fiat has based this special edition on the Panda 4x4 Rock and upgraded it with two-tone paint, 15-inch diamond-finish alloys, orange trim, fog lights, tinted glass and special badging. Inside, it's got gray and orange upholstery, and European buyers can order it up with either the 85-horsepower 900cc TwinAir engine or the 75hp 1.3-liter diesel.

Fiat 500 Cattiva and Abarth Tenebra concepts showcase design to enhance personality
Tue, 15 Jan 2013Fiat brought out two new design concepts at the Detroit Auto Show, both intended to expand the appeal of its 500 Turbo and 500 Abarth models with upgraded and unique appointments inside and out.
First up is the Fiat 500 "Cattiva," based on the 500 Turbo, painted with a vibrant Rame (Copper) exterior with contrasting Nero (Black) accents. The turbocharged 500 features gloss Nero headlamp buckets, parking lamp bezels, tail lamps and a roof-mounted spoiler. Special 16-inch alloys, painted satin dark gray, hint at the sport-tuned suspension inside each fender. The appointments are continued inside its cabin with leather sport seating, Matte Nero instrument panel and other trim upgrades. Lastly, the sound package is the segment-exclusive Beats Audio system.
The Fiat 500 "Tenebra," based on the 500 Abarth, is painted in Matte Grigio (Gray) with Nero accents, just like its sibling. In addition to gloss Nero headlamp buckets, parking and tail lamps, it is fitted with 16-inch alloys with a Nero chrome finish. Setting itself apart, the signature Abarth bodyside stripes (and mirror cap) are Grigio in color and there is a large Abarth "Scorpion" logo on the roof. Inside the cabin, the Tenebra features performance seats with leather upholstery, a flat-bottom steering wheel and other cosmetic upgrades. Like the Cattiva, the Beats Audio system is standard.
